| Personal Learning Community (PLC) BGU attributes much of its students' educational success to the support of a Personal Learning Community (PLC). Students create their PLC by identifying three to five individuals who contract with BGU to act as a support group for that sutdent during the course of their studies. We have seen that students who utilize a PLC are much more successful and better able to achieve their goal of completing the program. Please print the PLC Contract and Evaluation from and send it to three to five individuals who are willing to support you during this time. They can be close friends, collegues, co-workers, pastor, spouse, children, etc. You will ask your PLC to read all of your completed assignments, give you contructive feedback, and assist you in staying accountable to turn your coursework in on time. A minimum of three PLC members must submit a contract before an applicant will be considered for accepatance as a BGU student. | |
| Mentor Contract All applicants are required to identify a mentor before beginning their graduate studies. BGU has found that meaningful interaction with a mentor during the course of completing a student's program contributes to better academic performance and personal development. A mentor may be a business person, educator, supervisor, senior colleague, or pastor of your choosing, who is flexible and open, and who will agree to support and evaluate you as you pursue your degree. After identifying your mentor, please download the Mentor Contract form from our website and ask your mentor to return the completed form to BGU. The completed signed mentor contract must be received before an applicant will be considered for acceptance as a BGU student. | |
| English Language Requirement Each applicant must demonstrate English-proficiency in one of three ways, by (1) showing that it is his/her native language, or (2) by providing proof of successful completion of an undergraduate or graduate school program in which English is the primary method of instruction, or (3) by exhibiting sufficient English-language capabilities to succeed in graduate level studies as measured by a score of not less than 80 on the internet-based TOEFL exam taken within the last five years. For online information about testing locations and practice tests go to www.ets.org/toefl. Please use BGU's code number of 0709 for institution recipient. As an alternative to the TOEFL, BGU also accepts an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.5 or better. All applicants from Mainland China are required to attend the Total Immersion Program (TIP) that is held at Beijing University and must present a copy of the program completion certificate. Regardless of scores on the TOEFL, IELTS, or TIP, BGU reserves the right to independently test any student who is experiencing major difficulties speaking, understanding, reading and/or writing the English language in any BGU course. If the results of the BGU test are unsatisfactory, continued progress with the BGU program may be suspended until the student demonstrates to BGU his/her English language proficiency. Requests for waiver of the English Language Requirement will be considered based upon evidence of proficiency in the English language. |
